John was born in 1851. John's father was William H Kimbler and his mother was Nancy Jane Picklesimer (Kimbler).  His paternal grandparents were Ebenezar Kimbler and Nancy (Kimbler); his maternal grandparents were Dr Nathaniel Picklesimer and Lieuraney Susanah Williams (Picklesimer). He had five brothers and six sisters, named Nathaniel, Jackson, Winfield, Philip, Irvin, Lurana, Mary, Elizabeth, Delila, Cynthia and Manerva.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.
