Winfield was born in 1874.  Winfield's father was Silas P Kimbler and his mother was Sarah M Boyd (Kimbler).  His paternal grandparents were Ebenezar Kimbler and Nancy (Kimbler). He had a brother and a sister, named William and Mary.  He was the youngest of the three children.
